PROCESS

Care Through Action selects one "area of focus" on an annual basis. This single issue focus allows us to pool our dollars to make a significant impact. Once chosen, we fund for a 12-18 month period. Our board meets monthly and continually discusses areas of research and evaluates our progress to ensure we are meeting our objectives.

PLAN

In 2007 and 2008, CTA focused its effort on Darfur. We held three photography exhibitions to raise awareness and funds for both hunger relief for refugees and funding for school feeding programs.

In early 2009, we continue to work on driving awareness to Darfur as well as our new area of emphasis, sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Our goal for the year is to provide 200 surgeries, at approximately $300 per surgery and 2 safe houses for women and children in rural areas at $8,000 a house for a total goal of $76,000. We have chosen to support HEAL Africa as our partner organization.

HEAL Africa works to heal victims of sexual violence both physically and emotionally in the DRC. They run a hospital in Goma, capital of North Kivu province of DRC, performing approximately 1,800 fistula repair surgeries each year and providing victims with small enterprise training while they heal. HEAL Africa also works on a community level, providing safe houses, post-exposure medication and social services for rape victims.

We will evaluate our 2010 plan in December 2009.
